Do the Right Thing
An obstructionist Congress, politicized Supreme Court and Donald Trump campaign are antithetical to Let Freedom Ring — the 2016 Republican Party, more a portrait of white supremacy than Lincoln memorial.
August 28, 1774 St. Elizabeth (Mother Seaton of Emmetsburg, Maryland) was born in New York City. In 1963, the American Dream was embellished on the steps of Marion Anderson herstory.
On August 18, 2012 residents of Villages in Florida cheered as Paul Ryan promised to protect their Medicare by sacrificing that of their children and grandchildren. Shall we now think beyond such short-sightedness and instead generate billions of dollars every year, with a 0.5% tax on the transactions of the wolves of Wall Street, and save an American economy barely escaping the slaughter house of representatives?
Who’s minding the store, while a destitute Fourth Estate races to Pass Go first, brandishing overdrawn Breaking News Exclusives, for a Free Media giveaway to the waffling showmanship of a Bankrupter-in-Chief wannabe, whose only currency is the dividend of the morally insolvent.
Don’t we want our children to aspire to be more like Melinda & Bill Gates and 9/11 first responders than those CEOs both breaking our system and braking our goal for a nation of equal economic opportunity? Or shall we leave Millennials to be gouged by the likes of Epi-Pen CEO Heather Bresch, Martin Shkreli, Bernie Madoff and Jack Abermoff?
An exceptional example by which to lead our children: support business leaders whose companies, products and policies are not a footprint on consumers, but a step forward for the common good.
It’s not just who we give our vote, but to whom we give our money.
Perhaps if the Roberts’ Court lit our path as well as the torch of our French gift, the Statue of Liberty, We the People would nurture more the example of the French High Court within us, rather than allowing our electoral system to languish in the shadow of a recession bequeathed to us by Koch heads leading institutions like Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Shell Oil, Exxon, Haliburton and Aetna.
What and how can we lead our leaders if the American, Do the Right Thing, reflects French beach bigots who share individual freedom only when it exposes their preferred attire.
Conservatives, allowing Too Big to Jail banker puppeteers, who plummeted America’s retirement bankrolls, by trading global stability for national Sequester, compounded the problem, banking on a Congress of walled-in minds that hedged Wall Street fun with Panama accounts that increase Right imbalance, while depositing Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness — and our kids’ piggy banks — into foreclosure.
If we want Freedom to be more than a part-time enterprise full of income inconsistencies slanted toward .1% of the population, we’re going to have to artfully STEM tutor our children to insure our marketplace better than we did.
Together we are America Strong enough to rekindle a freedom reigning so every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight – if we out vote those who self-righteously cap freedom of choice, at the border of their limited vision.
This is the time to help others register to vote, educate all on the supreme importance of voting and progressively occupy all voting booths.
Merely labeling anti-American negatives like, Alt-Right, Citizens United, David Duke, The John Birch Society, Klu Klux Klan late in life penitents — West Virginia Senator Robert C. Byrd and Alabama Governor George Wallace – and proclaiming it either victory or solution, is as risky as exposing oneself to E. coli & Ebola, as criminal as serving Hepatitis A strawberries in Smoothies and as negligent as Congress failing to fund Zika prevention.
This is no time to talk of Democratic landslides!
The sun sets on a nation when its people fail to shine the light forward for its children.
Recovering the loss from a failure to seek both halves of our whole is not solved by increasing connecting apps, but by a reverence for our connected roots. For like trees to sun and soil, we ourselves are the conduit for both life and death, having, with each new dawn, the potential of being a love canal for affordable healthcare, environmental respect and harmonious peace.
What America may become after the victory of revolution, the pain of discrimination, the fear of change and the apathy toward whipping posts, spousal abuse and Guantanamo torture, will be found in the countenance of our choices: racial equality or perpetual war, a justice for all future or recurring trails of tears, reaping the Ferguson whirlwinds of slave ships or Thank God Almighty, We’re Free at Last.
The discrimination of foreign and domestic extremists whose interpretative distortion of legal documents and iconic holy books is not in God, but in our hypocrisy.
The failure of European and American politicians to grasp significance of sectarian religious anger is not in our stars, but in our lack of historical wisdom.
The persecution, enslavement or torture of any people whether African-American, Native American, Kurdish or Yazidi, is not in our constitution but in our failure to the Constitution.
The deficiency of our empathetic connectivity, is not in our devices, but in our need for instant consumer gratification.
And the harbor of our lack of humanity is not Middle Eastern mountain tops, but in the hidden valleys of our short term memories.
Whether calculating from Eden, Abraham or The Little BigHorn, even prehistoric Lucy stands in the shadow of half and half ancestor: three million year old Ape Man.
While all life on earth is one village too neglected, neither life nor global issues are solved by oversimplification. Thus, neither should our students, educators or beliefs be formed by only one POV. Indeed, whether North or Southern sympathizer, enslaved or Reich Master Race, we were all connected even before NSA wiretapping.
Whether espousing Exceptionalism, seeking military superiority or disinfecting our elections from Supreme Koch head Citizens United, we’ll need to read more than 140 characters to resurrect from the chaotic disconnect in the wake of a president who couldn’t chew a pretzel and drink beer at the same time he was making the world safe for Oil environmental polluters.
Smart devices and TV remotes need replace Monday morning quarterbacking with in depth research and objective investigative reporting — and those insisting America’s a Shining City on a Hill need recall, its beacon light is a guide to equality and freedom for all. Then, cease and desist referring to our tanner half as Welfare Queens, peacefully dismantle the terrorism of our militarized police state and end private prisons for profit over population achieved by Stop and Frisk and Driving While Black.
After enslavement economy & Wall Street meltdown, war profiteering fear mongering and the violence of hate crimes against Native Americans, women, minorities and children, we may still recover the loss of their human resources, by not choosing the self-righteous, but rather the Do the Right Thing, love canal.
Make 2014 elections hold this truth to be self-evident: whether we trace our roots to Jesus or Mohammed, Andrew Indian Removal Act Jackson or Chief Little John Ross, Lincoln or Booth, Teddy Roosevelt or Booker T. Washington, The anti-Fossil Fuels Rockefeller Brothers Fund or Halliburton’s BP, attention must be paid to solutions for:
- Depletion of our planet’s natural resources,
- Abduction, Rape, Murder
- Spousal abuse
- Raising minimum wage
- Ratification of ERA
- Gender income equality
