Have a Reasonably Happy Thanksgiving

Posted on Updated on

statue-of-liberty-reasonThough enduring a journalistic age of overtly self-important, over the top myopic gossip, we still have a reasonable chance for happiness this Thanksgiving, for as a people, we are much better than Media hype and post political campaign conjecture.

Perhaps having a device free Thanksgiving would soothe the savage breast of half of gathering family members, if only until that post over stuffed tummy gurgling, craving carbonation to overcome too many upending election night surprises before belching out a food coma inauguration.

Despite desperation voting, pointless non-voting for points not taken, deterioration of humane treatment of all humanity and food deserts in the middle of Fracking and Factory Farms’ gluttony, temporarily fracturing our union — happiness is, appreciating Native Americans for the holiday they gave us and supporting all who celebrate Thanksgiving in war zones, by keeping the peace around our dinner tables here at home.

Our national Fault Lines are less in our stars than in ourselves, so Go High!

Give every American from sea to shining sea — documented or not, original occupiers of the realm or invading European forces, historically enslaved or constitutionally kept in her place — family, friends, nosy neighbors and even strange acting relatives from afar, a welcome home.

In grateful chorus, pause administrations’ mutations — bestowing upon each other our thanks in celebration of temporarily re-occupying the No Man’s Land of loving unity, civility and mutual respect, with a calm, not so fast with that trumped fueled family feud!

Arguably, it’s reasonable to expect Donald Trump will perpetually elect to be his own worst enemy, and, without any help from the sanity of the popular vote, sustaining love thy neighbor as thyself and stewardship of the earth and all life upon it — clearly, some of the people, some of the time are enabled, indeed emboldened by vulgar loudmouths mistaking inciting violence, for leadership.

Amidst self-righteous victories, our saintly patience can rise above the gullible, gasping to revitalize the supremacy of rusty minds and oil slicked tongues, worshipping the greatness of fifth grade phrases in the shadow of the very economic swamp creationists they, and their Pied Piper, claim to want to drain.

Yes, judicial dredging of Congress and K. Street could uncover the remains of Individual Thought and exceptional Justice for All.  However, the Thanksgiving grease trap that needs draining from top to bottom, is the cesspool of Koch heads laughing all the way with indiscriminate Hedge Funds, while the duped, Hail Trump and commit acts of discrimination.

Government of, by and for the people, was never intended to mean not voting, only voting or trusting everything or everyone streaming on any screen.  Sadly, some studies profess that over half of Americans trust the news on Social Media, and Millennials are less likely to fact check this news. Also, older in not wiser.  Those over forty are less likely to trust any POV different from their repetitive primary source of corporate owned media, Aiding and Abetting America’s current cannibalistic tendencies.

Now that The Right White has been put back in the White House, humane Americans need vigilantly support all whose Constitutional rights are most vulnerable to mobs transitioning Thanksgiving into Halloween.

If We the People, stand tall with our fellow Native Americans, Female Americans, African-Americans, Islamic-Americans, Asian-Americans, Hispanic Americans, Jewish Americans, LGBTQ Americans, physically & mentally challenged Americans – racism and sexism agenda fails!

In Thanksgiving:

  • Almost two million more Americans voted, “No” to all forms of racism and sexism
  • Open-minded Millennials are smarter than Baby Boomers were when we were Millennials
  • One Thanksgiving Day, we will give thanks to Native Americans for their ancestors saving our ancestors from starvation
  • We now know some Americans lie to pollsters, so maybe we’ll mute Steve Kornacki’s hyper-ventilating updates
  • A humbled Democratic Party may learn defeat’s lesson better than the GOP garnered from its 2012 Autopsy
  • Ultimately Love will trump hate.

May all share the beauty of American Diversity in Thanksgiving!akemi-chickens-fear-rainbow

Dying for the Good Ol’ Days – Headlined on OpEdNews.com 11/22/16

Posted on Updated on

times-square-marcelloI miss my Grandmamma, especially the day after Thanksgiving, when the smoking multitude of boisterous Italian-American family and friends take their uproarious debate, home.  Those were the Good Ol’ Days – an outhouse downwind, being the favorite grandson and helping Uncle Gino find the perfect Christmas Tree, deep in the woods – never fearing what might lie in wait for us.

My Grandmamma taught me, we mustn’t allow America to pay the ultimate price of the distortion of once upon a time.  Touching my forehead like ET, she’d add, the Good Ol’ Days are the devil’s trick on those who live looking backwards.

It’s easy to keep the faith, hope and love in your heart and cherish all, when all is well:  plenty of friends & money, bright future, fulfilling occupation – that Joie de vivre, when you feel you are the positive difference, embellishing the inhalation of every living thing.  However, the character & temperament, courage & strength, stability & security and even power & might of a nation is translucent in how its people treat one another.

My first NYC employer, Holocaust survivor, Mr. Weinberg, was forced to divide masses of incoming Jewish prisoners by deciding who went to the workers’ barracks, and who entered the line for showers.  This is the Good Ol’ Days for people like David Duke, Steve Bannon and Michael Flynn.

Will this Thanksgiving remake America First into Restricted skyscrapers hotels & clubs, like the good ol’ days of Jim Crow & Operation Wetback?

College degrees don’t make elitists, but degrees of greed do.  Not having a university education doesn’t make one uneducated, but following someone just because, he speaks his mind, defeats freedom as much as, The Patriot Act.

Potentially, We the People are the sum-total of the biblical Abraham & Abraham Lincoln, Susan B. Anthony, Alice Paul & all the forgotten African-American suffragettes, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Tammy Duckworth and all those male, female, gay and straight people who, in uniform, preserve, protect and defend the future of education, equality and justice for all — the very freedom for which we stand at Standing Rock.

Yes, it’s easy to create a registering system for keeping an eye on those Muslims.  Just follow the well documented example set by 1930’s Germany, or ask Carl Higbie or for an insider POV, George Hosato Takei.

We are not the divided nation Media & GOP preach:  the popular vote elected the first female President of the United States, Democrats narrowed the GOP obstructionist margin, and, the sun rose on Wednesday November 9, 2016, with Trump still facing multiple lawsuits.

With American optimism, let us move our nation and national mind-set, forward, as the right direction avoiding man’s inhumanity to man, knowing common sense and common decency require more than emailing, tweeting, blogging and carrying protest signs.

While street violence is illegal, every American has the right to peacefully assemble in the office of federal, state and local elected officials – to petition government.

It’s not just the bigotry, misogyny, Islamophobia and Homophobia – it’s the ineptitude around which the inept surround themselves in times of mass hysteria.  Towering misinformation feeds desire for revenge in those for whom seeing beyond their back porch is neither a manageable feat, nor feasible concept.  You do the Hokey-Pokey and you turn USA around, is what the good ol’ days are all about.

Sadly, minds closed by the good ol’ days, need another trip down short-term memory-loss lane, chocking on America First, blinded by the smog of climate denial, before realizing, there is no greatness in a me first nation.

The only wall we need focus on preventing, is the wall of bluster the self-absorbed have built between themselves and what’s best for all.  Even prime-time television, fueling our soul with humor, reflects greatness in America’s diversity – but freedom’s oxygen, is action.
